Learning Through Play- Day 3

Today we definitely deviated a little from the plan.  Okay- we did completely different activities for the most part. :)  I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing though.  We didn't want to feel "locked" in to something to begin with.  We were originally going to go to the public library for story time-- but an ice storm came through last night and we just didn't want to risk getting on the roads.  So, we read books instead!

I concentrated on setting up activities as "invitations to play."  This article from The Imagination Tree explains the concept.  Here are some photos from some of our other fun:

All About Ramps---

Both Charlotte and Weston played with this activity, but I only took pictures of Charlotte.  They both had fun with this!  I basically set up the ramps in three different stations.

Gum Drop Christmas Tree

I know you are thinking--- It's January! Christmas is over!  I know, I know, but I intended to do this activity and we just never got to it. :)  It's a great fine motor activity.

So here it is.

taste testing :)

Looks like she had fun with this one!

In addition to the pictured activities, we also did other fun activities.

Since we did not stick to our intended learning activities today, I am thinking of moving "balloon rockets" to Friday to replace the marble run-- I just don't have enough cardboard tubes yet!  I might also incorporate the shaving cream mixing colors activity with the other painting fun.  Other than that, I'm just going to scratch the other activities!  Bottom line is--we had fun and we were learning! :)  All of us.
